Chloroplatinic acid (English spelling)

Chloroplatinic acid (English spelling)
Platinum chloride is also called chloroplatinic acid or platinum hydrochloric acid. Platinum acids and their salts containing platinum in the oxidation states +II and +IV are known.
[Tetrachloroplatinic acid (II)]
The chemical formula is H 2 [PtCl 4 ]. When an aqueous solution of H 2 [PtCl 6 ] is reduced, a red solution is obtained. When a metal hydroxide is dissolved in this solution, the salt M I 2 [PtCl 4 ] (M I is a monovalent cation) is obtained. The salt is a red crystal. Alkaline salts are easily soluble in water. [PtCl 4 ] 2- has a square planar structure. Examples include potassium salt K 2 [PtCl 4 ] (specific gravity 3.382 (25°C)), cesium salt Cs 2 [PtCl 4 ], and barium salt Ba[PtCl 4 ]・3H 2 O (specific gravity 2.868).
