Kitchen cycle

A type of business cycle discovered by American economist JA Kitchin in 1923. He examined several British and American time series and discovered that in addition to the traditional waves of business fluctuations (Juglar cycles) with an average period of 8 to 10 years, there are also short-term fluctuations with an average period of 40 months. While Juglar cycles are called major cycles, Kitchin cycles are called minor cycles. While major cycles are centered on fluctuations in capital investment, minor cycles are caused by cyclical fluctuations in inventory investment, so they are sometimes called inventory cycles.

1923年アメリカの経済学者 J.A.キチンにより発見された景気循環の一形態。彼は英米のいくつかの時系列を検討し，従来の平均8～10年の周期をもつ景気変動の波 (ジュグラー・サイクル ) のほかに，平均 40ヵ月を周期とする短期変動が存在することを発見した。ジュグラー・サイクルが主循環 major cycleと呼ばれるのに対して，キチン・サイクルは小循環 minor cycleと呼ばれる。主循環が設備投資の変動を中心としているのに対し，小循環は在庫投資の循環的変動によって生じるものとされるので，インベントリー・サイクル (在庫循環) と呼ぶこともある。
