Huntington Library

A private library in San Marino, a suburb of Los Angeles, USA. Founded in 1919 by businessman Henry E. Huntington (1850-1927), the library has collected a huge number of ancient manuscripts, originals, old maps, letters, diaries, and other materials related to British and American history and literature. Representative items include the Gutenberg edition of the Bible from the mid-15th century, a gorgeous copy of The Canterbury Tales from around 1410, and B. Franklin's handwritten manuscript of his Autobiography.

アメリカのロサンゼルス郊外サン･マリノにある私立図書館。実業家ハンティントンHenry E.Huntington(1850‐1927)が1919年に創立した。イギリスとアメリカの歴史と文学に関係のある膨大な数の古写本，原本，古地図，書簡，日記などを収集している。代表的なものに，15世紀半ばのグーテンベルク版聖書，1410年ごろの《カンタベリー物語》の豪華な写本，B.フランクリンの自筆の《自叙伝》原稿などがある。
