〘Noun〙 An official not subject to the Imperial Law. The predecessor of the Ukon'efu (Ukon'efu) in the Heian period. Established in the 5th year of the Jinki era ( 728 ). Along with the Kon'efu, which was replaced by the Kon'efu (the Imperial Guard), this was the Emperor's personal guard unit that was primarily responsible for protecting the Imperial Palace. In the 2nd year of the Daido era ( 807 ), it was renamed Ukon'efu. 〘名〙 令外の官。平安時代の右近衛府(うこんえふ)の前身。神亀五年(七二八)設置。授刀衛を改めた近衛府と並んでもっぱら宮中の守護に当たった天皇の親衛隊。大同二年(八〇七)右近衛府と改称した。中衛。※続日本紀‐神亀五年(728)八月甲午「置二中衛府一」
