Kairo

Japanese: 開魯 - かいろ

A county in the Chelim League in the southeastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. Population 350,000 (1994). It is located on the north bank of the Xiliao River, about 80km west of Tongliao City. In 1908 (the 34th year of the Guangxu era), the county was established and developed, and during the Manchukuo period it also became the capital of Xing'an Xi Province. Since ancient times, it has flourished as a trading post between China and Mongolia, and even today it is a key trading post along the Tongliao-Linxi Highway, which is important for agricultural and livestock products from the Xilingol League region in the west. 中国，内モンゴル自治区南東部のチェリム(哲里木)盟の県。人口35万(1994)。西遼河北岸，通遼市の西約80kmにある。1908年(光緒34)県城がおかれて発展し，〈満州国〉時代には興安西省の省都にもなった。古くから，中国とモンゴル方面の交易地として栄え，今日でも，西部のシリンゴール(錫林郭勒)盟地方の農畜産物にとって重要な通遼～林西公路に沿う交易要地である。【小野菊雄】
