A linguistic term. The realization that forms the basis of French linguist A. Martinet's linguistic theory. Human languages are known to have this double segmentation through numerous observations, and the basic requirements imposed on human language also suggest that a double segment structure is absolutely necessary. The first of the basic requirements imposed on human language is the issue of "diversity." Human language must meet the needs of new expressions that arise one after another. This gives rise to the requirement for infinite diversity. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
