Margrave of Brandenburg-Krumbach, Germany. Reigned 1541-54. Raised as a Lutheran, he was indifferent to religion and initially sided with the imperial faction in the Schmalkaldic War, but later drew closer to the anti-imperial faction. In 1553, in an attempt to establish dominance in the Franconia region, he attacked the Bishop of Bamberg and others, but was defeated by the army of the princes under the leadership of Moritz, Duke of Saxony, and lost his territory in 1554. He was something of a mercenary captain during the Reformation. [Kenjiro Nakamura]

ドイツのブランデンブルク･クルンバハ辺境伯。在位1541‐54年。ルター派として養育されたが，宗教には無関心で，はじめは皇帝派についてシュマルカルデン戦争に従い，その後は反皇帝派に接近した。1553年フランケン地方での優位を確立するために，バンベルク司教らを攻めたが，ザクセン公モーリツ指導下の諸侯軍に敗れ，54年その領土を失った。宗教改革時代の傭兵隊長的な人物であった。【中村賢二郎】
