Japanese: 小太夫 - こだゆう

Title of an old Joruri piece. Published in 1641 (Kan'ei 18). Printed by Yamamoto Kyubei. Only the lower volume of the two-volume set remains. The content is the same as the Noh piece Kanra no Tayu. Kanra no Tayu, lord of Tatara Castle in Kozuke province, is imprisoned after his land is embezzled by Aramabei Kagenobu, a resident of Shimotsuke province. The wife of loyal retainer Yasutsuna disguises herself as servant Kotayu and rescues her lord, after which the family is restored. This piece differs from other old Joruri pieces such as Hanaya and Akashi, about feuding animals, in that the family is restored through the loyalty of its retainers without the aid of gods or Buddhas. 古浄瑠璃の曲名。1641年(寛永18)刊。山本九兵衛板。上下2冊本の下巻のみ現存。内容は謡曲《甘楽太夫（かんらのたゆう）》と同じ。上野国多々良城主甘楽太夫は下野国の住人荒間兵衛景信に国を横領され，幽閉される。忠臣安綱の妻は奉公人小太夫に扮して主君を救出し，その後，お家再興となる。神仏の助力なしに臣下の忠義によって主家を再興する点で，他の古浄瑠璃のお家騒動物《はなや》《明石》などとは異なる。【山本吉左右】
