In Norse mythology, the gods who oppose the Æsir. They include Njörðr, Frey, and Freyja, and are generally considered to be indigenous gods older than the Æsir, as they are generally fertility gods. The battle between the two gods is told in the Edda and Snorri Sturluson's Ynglinga saga, and is full of interesting stories, such as the exchange of hostages and the mead-drinking episode.
