Yayoicho ruins

Japanese:
Yayoicho ruins
This is a Yayoi period ruin located on the cliff edge facing Nezu from the northeastern edge of the University of Tokyo campus in Yayoi 2-chome, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo (until the town name was changed in 1963, it was called Mukogaoka Yayoi-cho 2). It is also called Mukogaoka Shell Mound. In 1884, Arisaka Senzo, who would later become a professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Tokyo, collected a jar-shaped pottery that was partially exposed above the ground surface. As it was pottery with a different appearance from Jomon pottery, around 1894 he began calling it Yayoi-style pottery after the name of the town, and the name eventually became established. The location of the pot's discovery became unknown due to subsequent changes in the topography.
