Around 1190 - 1264
French author. He joined the early Dominican order and wrote in Beauvais and Paris, France, from 1229 onwards. He compiled Speculum majus, the largest encyclopedia of the Middle Ages, between 1247 and 1259. This encyclopedia, consisting of 80 volumes and about 10,000 entries, is based mainly on quotations from 450 authors and 2,000 documents that Vincent himself had read. It consists of four parts, of which the third part, Speculum naturale, Speculum doctrinale, and Speculum historiale, were written by Vincent himself.

フランスの著作家。初期のドミニコ会派修道会に入り,1229年以降フランスのボーベおよびパリにおいて,著作活動を行った。中世最大の百科事典とされる《大鏡Speculum majus》を,1247年から59年の間に編纂した。この著作は,全80巻,約1万項目にのぼる百科事典であり,みずから閲読しえた450人の著者,2000の文献からの引用を主体としている。4部からなり,〈自然の鏡Speculum naturale〉〈理論の鏡Speculum doctrinale〉〈歴史の鏡Speculum historiale〉の3部は,バンサン自身の手になる。
