Around 1190 - 1264 French author. He joined the early Dominican order and wrote in Beauvais and Paris, France, from 1229 onwards. He compiled Speculum majus, the largest encyclopedia of the Middle Ages, between 1247 and 1259. This encyclopedia, consisting of 80 volumes and about 10,000 entries, is based mainly on quotations from 450 authors and 2,000 documents that Vincent himself had read. It consists of four parts, of which the third part, Speculum naturale, Speculum doctrinale, and Speculum historiale, were written by Vincent himself.
