Imperial forest - Goryourin

Japanese: 御料林 - ごりょうりん
Imperial forest - Goryourin
〘 noun 〙 Imperial forest property. Between 1888 and 1890 ( Meiji 21 ), 1,428,000 cho of beautiful forest land in Kiso, Nagano Prefecture, Gifu, Yamanashi, Shizuoka, Kanagawa Prefecture and other areas were transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce to the Imperial Household Ministry, and in 1890, 2 million cho of Hokkaido's official forests were added, but due to subsequent adjustments to the land area, by 1937 ( Showa 12 ), the total amount was 1,413,000 cho (of which 210,000 cho was traditional Imperial property). The land was managed by the Imperial Household Ministry's Imperial Property Bureau (later the Imperial Forestry Bureau), and at its peak, it produced around 4 million koku of timber and 1.5 million koku of fuel wood annually. After World War II, when the Imperial property was dissolved, it was incorporated into national forests. ※Fuzoku Gaho, Issue 174 (1898) Manroku: "Even though it is now under the jurisdiction of the Imperial Property Bureau, it still belongs to the top class of the Japanese Imperial Forests (Gorewrin) ."
