…Rousse was an anti-fascist fighter, and in addition to his political activities he also engaged in literary activities, such as "A Year in the Plateau" (1938). Giuseppe Dessi (1909-77), who was also from the Cagliari area like Rousse, published a novel of memory tracing in the Proustian style before the Second World War, and after the liberation he turned to a realist style, depicting the Sardinian climate and the conflicts of the people in works such as "Sparrows" (1953) and "Land of Shadows" (1972). In addition, Gavino Ledda (1938- ), an up-and-coming writer who was born the son of an illiterate shepherd but grew up to become a linguist, wrote "Padre Padrone" (1975) and "The Sickle's Word" (1977), bringing to light the reality that the island and its inhabitants still live with complex problems. …
