Kushimotoura

...In the early modern period, Kushimoto Village was included in Shiozaki Manor, and according to the land survey of 1601 (Keicho 6), there were 24 households, including one temple, one priest, two village headmen, four widows, and 16 officials. The total area of ​​fields was 17 cho, 8 tan, 5 se, 27 bu, and the village tax was 146 koku, 4 to, 9 sho, 1 go. According to the Kii Zoku Fudoki from the end of the Edo period, the village tax for Kushimotoura only increased slightly to 168 koku, but the number of households increased to 350, and they specialized in fishing, especially bonito fishing, which was very profitable and many of them were wealthy. In 1867 (Keio 3), the number of households reached 404 and 1,789 people.
