A localized disturbance in the sedimentary structure seen in a stratum, also called an interlayer anomaly. It is one of the important subjects in the study of the morphology of stratums, and the following have been observed: (1) Slumping A stratum of a certain thickness sandwiched between parallel strata shows intralayer folding, bedding is torn off, and ultimately becomes so mixed that it no longer retains its original shape. This occurs when the strata are deposited relatively rapidly and have not yet fully consolidated, and the slope of the deposited slope increases for some reason, causing a slope collapse, resulting in an underwater landslide.

地層中にみられる局部的な堆積構造の乱れのことで，層間異常ともいう。地層の形態研究の重要な課題の一つで，次のようなものが観察されている。(1)地すべりslumping　平行な地層にはさまれたある厚さの地層が，層内褶曲を示したり，層理がちぎれたりして，最終的には原形をとどめないほど混じりあってしまうもの。これは，地層が比較的急速に堆積し，地層の固結がまだ十分進んでいない状態で，堆積した斜面の傾斜が何らかの原因により増加したような場合に，斜面崩壊が原因で水中地すべりが生じたものである。
