1581‐1660 French Catholic saint and priest. Founder of the Vincentian Missionaries and the Sisters of Charity of Vincentian de Paul. He preached the gospel to the poor throughout France, awakened their faith, and founded many schools and seminaries. He is well known for his friendship with François de Sales, but he also played an active role as a political mediator. In 1643, he became a member of the Committee of Conscience, which assisted Louis XIV in religious matters. He was canonized in 1737. His feast day is September 27.
