〘Noun〙① An arrow that is attached to a Hamaya① and shot. It is now considered a lucky charm for the New Year. Hamaya. [Season: New Year] *Mōri family documents - (year unknown) (around 1565) December 29th, letter from Mori Terumoto "If you would like to send any Hamaya arrows to any place, please present them to us." ② A pair of arrows made of cypress wood that are displayed on the roof along with a Hamaya② during the roof-raising ceremony . The Kabura-ya arrow points upwards and the Ganmataya arrow points downwards. *From Takumi-ke Kojitsuroku (1803), "Examples of roof-raising (abbreviated) Standards for the making of Hamaya and Hamaya"

〘名〙① 破魔弓①につがえて放つ矢。今は正月の縁起物としている。はまつや。《季・新年》※毛利家文書‐(年未詳)(1565頃)一二月二九日・毛利輝元書状「御はま矢共、何方へも御遣候はは、進上可申候」② 棟上式のとき、破魔弓②とともに屋上に飾る、檜で作った二本の矢の形をしたもの。鏑矢を上に向け、雁股矢を下に向ける。※匠家故実録(1803)中「上棟之例式〈略〉破魔弓・破魔矢之作格」
