Treecreeper (Japanese: treecreeper)

Japanese: キバシリ(木走) - キバシリ（英語表記）treecreeper

A passerine bird of the treecreeper family (illustration). It is about 14 cm long and perches on tree trunks in a manner similar to that of woodpeckers, and like woodpeckers, it also has a stiff tail shaft. However, its beak is thin and curved, and it has three toes in front and one in back, like most small birds. The upper side of its body is mottled with dark brown and white, and the underside is white. It is widely distributed mainly in the mid-latitudes of Asia, Europe, and North America, and in Japan it lives mainly in the subalpine zone of Hokkaido, Honshu, and Shikoku. It lives in coniferous forests, climbing up tree trunks in a spiral from bottom to top, picking up insects and spiders that are found on the surface of the bark or in cracks in its mouth.
