The name of the theater company. It was formed in December 1948 when Goro Geki (Soganoya Goro Ichiza) and Shochiku Kateigeki (Soganoya Jugo and others) were joined by Shibuya Tengai II and others. Following in the footsteps of the Soganoya Brothers Theater, which elevated Osaka niwaka (flashback) laughter to comedy, the company staged works by Goro (pen name Ikkai Gyojin), Jugo (Morinji Bunpuku), Tengai (Tate Naoshi), and others. After Jugo and others left the company one after another, Tengai became the leader, and his disciple Fujiyama Kanbi became the star performer. After Tengai fell ill in 1965, Kanbi became the leader, and the company gained a reputation as a popular theater company. Following the sudden death of Hiromi in May 1990, the theater company was reorganized and renamed "New Shochiku Shinkigeki" in the same year, and made a fresh start.
