Italian composer and violinist. Also called Torelli. Born in Verona, he trained in Bologna. After spending a few years in Berlin and Vienna at the end of the 17th century, he returned to Bologna in 1701 and became a violinist in the chapel orchestra of the Church of San Petronio. He remained in that position for the rest of his life. He is known as a composer who contributed greatly to the development of instrumental music, especially the concerto form, and he broke away from the traditional concerto grosso (grosso) form represented by Corelli and established the solo concerto (solo concerto) style. In addition, most of the works in his representative work, Concerto Grosso, Op. 8 (published posthumously in 1709), were early adopters of a three-movement structure (fast-slow-fast) instead of the four-movement structure of church sonatas (sonatas) (slow-fast-fast). →Concerto / Vivaldi

イタリアの作曲家，バイオリン奏者。トレッリともいう。ベローナに生まれ，ボローニャで音楽修業を積む。17世紀末の数年間ベルリンやウィーンで活動したのち1701年ボローニャに帰り，聖ペトローニオ教会の礼拝堂楽団のバイオリン奏者に就任。以後生涯この地位にとどまった。器楽曲，ことにコンチェルト形式の発展に貢献した作曲家として知られ，コレリに代表される従来の合奏協奏曲（コンチェルト・グロッソ）の形態から脱し，独奏協奏曲（ソロ・コンチェルト）の様式を確立した。また，代表作として知られる《コンチェルト・グロッソ集》作品８（死後1709年出版）の大半の作品では，教会ソナタ（ソナタ）の緩−急−緩−急の４楽章構成に代わって急−緩−急の３楽章構成がいち早く採用されている。→協奏曲／ビバルディ
