Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (English: Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union)

Abbreviation: ABU. An organization of national broadcasting organizations of independent countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Founded in 1964, as of 2006, 50 organizations from 36 countries and regions are regular members, 29 organizations from 13 countries and regions are associate members, and 32 organizations from 23 countries and regions are associate members. The objectives of the organization's establishment were to protect the interests of its members, promote and coordinate research on broadcasting issues, exchange information, and promote the use of broadcasting in the fields of national development and education. Based on this objective, the organization coordinates and communicates with members on programming, news, copyrights, technology, training, etc., and also serves as a liaison office for negotiations with other organizations. The organization also co-produces educational programs and hosts the "ABU Award Programming Competition." Its secretariat is in Malaysia.

略称ABU。アジア・太平洋地域の独立国の全国的な性格の放送機関が加盟する組織。1964年に設立、2006年現在36か国、50機関が正会員として、また準正会員として13か国・地域、29機関、準会員として23か国・地域、32機関が加盟している。設立の目的は、会員の利益保護、放送に関する問題の研究促進と調整、情報の交換、国の開発と教育の分野における放送利用の促進などで、これに基づいて、番組、ニュース、著作権、技術、研修などの面で会員相互の連絡や調整を行うほか、他機関との交渉の窓口にもなっている。また教育番組の共同制作も行い、「ABU賞番組コンクール」も開催している。事務局はマレーシアにある。
