Harbour porpoise (Japanese: harbour porpoise)

Japanese: ネズミイルカ(鼠海豚) - ネズミイルカ（英語表記）harbour porpoise

A mammal of the Porpoise family in the Toothed Cetacean suborder. A small dolphin that lives in coastal areas of the temperate to polar regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Its back is gray-black, and the border with the white area on its underside is unclear. Its dorsal fin is triangular, and it has no beak. It has 19-28 teeth on each side, top and bottom, with flat, spade-shaped crowns. Mating season is in the summer, and the gestation period is about 11 months. Calves are born at 70-90cm in length, are weaned after about six months, and mature at 3-4 years of age at 1.5-1.6m in length (weight 45-60kg). It is rare for them to reach 2m in length. They give birth once every 1-2 years.
