A town in Yoshino County, central Nara Prefecture. Kamiichi, located in the center of the Yoshino River and facing the middle reaches of the Yoshino River, has long developed as a market town and is still the commercial center of the county. It is a distribution center for Yoshino cedar and other timber, and the lumber industry is thriving. Ayu sweetfish are produced in the Yoshino River. The Kintetsu Yoshino Line runs through the town, and Mount Yoshino is located to the south.
