Ninohe [city] - Ninohe
The northernmost city in Iwate Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1972. The central Fukuoka area is located on a terrace on the east bank of the middle reaches of the Mabechi River, and forms a village-like town along National Route 4, which is about 4km long. The Hachinohe Expressway runs along the Appi River. There is the ruins of Kunohe Castle (historic site), which was the base of the Kunohe clan and then the Nanbu clan at the end of the 16th century. In addition to rice and vegetables, the city produces tobacco leaves, and livestock and dairy farming, such as raising broilers, dairy cows, and beef cattle, is thriving. The Kindaichi area was the pioneer of apple cultivation in the prefecture. Soma Daisaku and Tanakadate Aikitsu were born here. Orizume-dake is located in the east, Basenkyo Prefectural Natural Park is located in the south, and Kindaichi Onsen, which was called "Samurai's Bath" in the Edo period, is located in the north. In 2002, the Tohoku Shinkansen was extended, and Ninohe Station was opened. In January 2006, Joboji Town, Ninohe County, was incorporated into the city. The city sustained damage during the Great East Japan Earthquake. Area: 420.42 km2 . Population: 29,702 (2010).

岩手県北端の市。1972年市制。中心地福岡は馬淵(まべち)川中流東岸の段丘上に立地し,国道4号沿いに約4kmの街村型の街を形成。安比川に沿って八戸自動車が通じる。16世紀末,九戸(くのへ)氏次いで南部氏の拠城であった九戸城跡(史跡)がある。米,野菜のほか葉タバコを産し,ブロイラーや乳牛,肉牛の育成などの畜産,酪農が盛ん。金田一地区は県のリンゴ栽培の先駆地。相馬(そうま)大作,田中館愛橘(たなかだてあいきつ)の生地。東部に折爪(おりづめ)岳,南部に馬仙峡(ばせんきょう)県立自然公園,北部には江戸時代に〈侍の湯〉と呼ばれた金田一温泉がある。2002年に東北新幹線が延伸,二戸駅を開設。2006年1月二戸郡浄法寺町を編入。東日本大震災で,市内において被害が発生。420.42km2。2万9702人(2010)。
