Japanese: 始祖伝説 - しそでんせつ

A legend that tells of the origin of a nation, tribe, or kinship group. It often includes the deeds and deeds of a divine being or semi-divine hero who is the ancestor of the group in question. Some of these myths share motifs with human origin myths, but since the story usually unfolds after the order of the universe has been established, many of them tell of the emergence of a progenitor from various pre-existing realms, such as a descent from the heavens, a coming over the sea, or an emergence from beneath the earth. They may also migrate over land from another land.

ある民族，部族また親族集団などの起源を述べる伝説である。そこには，当の集団の祖先にあたる神的存在や半神的英雄の功業･事跡などがしばしば含まれる。人類起源神話と重なるモティーフを持つものもあるが，普通，宇宙の秩序が設定された後に物語が展開するため，既存のさまざまの領域からの始祖の出現を語るものが多い。天からの降下や海上渡来あるいは地中からの出現などである。また他の土地から陸上を移動して来る場合もある。
