A mountain in southwestern California, USA. It is 1,871 meters above sea level. It is located in the Cleveland National Forest in the Coast Ranges, 80 km north-northeast of San Diego, and is home to Palomar State Park. The Mount Palomar Observatory, which has a 200-inch reflecting telescope, was founded by astronomer GE Hale along with the Mount Wilson Observatory in the northern suburbs of Los Angeles. Today, the two are collectively known as the Hale Observatory. It is jointly used by the California Institute of Technology and the Carnegie Institution for Science.
