A mid-Edo period Ukiyo-zoshi author. His real name was Yoshinori. His other names were Yoshi and Asayoshi. He was the son of Osaka bookseller Nishizawa Tahei, and from around 1699 (Genroku 12) he called himself Shohonya Kuzaemon and published plays and songs. On the other hand, as a Ukiyo-zoshi author, he wrote works such as Shinshiki Gokanjo (New Color Five Volume Book) in 1698 and his representative work Gozen Gikeiki (Record of the Lord of the Fifth Five Volume Book) (1700), which opened up new momentum in the world of Ukiyo-zoshi, rivalling Ejima Kiseki, who was a contemporary of his. However, his activities became less active from around 1710 (7th year of the Hoei Era), but from around 1723 (8th year of the Kyoho Era) he worked with young composers to create joruri such as "Hojo Tokiyori-ki" (1726) as a composer for the Toyotake Theatre Company, and also published "Ima Mukashi Ayatsuri Nendai-ki" (1727), a book on the history and historical facts of joruri. He died on May 24th, 16th year of the Kyoho Era.
