1523‐62 Italian anatomist. He studied at the University of Ferrara, and after serving as professor at the universities of Ferrara and Pisa, he became professor of anatomy and botany at the University of Padua in 1551, succeeding MR Colombo. The anatomical terms named after him include the fallopian tube and the facial canal of the temporal bone. He wrote extensively about the anatomy of the chorda tympani nerve, trigeminal nerve, glossopharyngeal nerve, velum palate, ocular muscles, cerebral blood vessels, cervical and lumbar swelling of the spinal cord, vagina, placenta, and genitals.
