Also known as dream bugs, this is a general term for marine arthropods in the Pycnogonida class, which have spider-like bodies. They have similarities to both crustaceans and spiders, and were once classified as part of the Arachnid class. They are 0.1 to several centimeters long, and are divided into three parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen. The head is small and fused with the first thoracic segment, with a tubular snout at the front end and a mouth at the tip. Near the base of the snout are chelicerae and palps, and males always have oviparous legs. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
