A former town in Chiisagata County, central Nagano Prefecture. It is located on the alluvial fan of the Yoda River, a tributary of the Chikuma River. Nagakubo-Shinmachi, in the center, is a former post town on the Nakasendo road. The town operates on agriculture and forestry. Shirakaba Highlands are located in the south. In October 2005, it merged with Wada Village in Chiisagata County to become Nagano Town in Chiisagata County. Area: 96.14 km2 . Population: 5,316 (2003).
