Ira (English spelling) white-banded taskfish

A marine fish of the Osteichthyes class, Perciformes order, Labridae family. It is found in southern Japan south of Chiba Prefecture, the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, Taiwan, and the South China Sea. Its body is laterally compressed but thick. The base color of its body is reddish brown with a wide white oblique stripe in the center, the front of which is dark green. The area around its mouth and the front of its pelvic fins are blue. It reaches a total length of 40 centimeters. It lives in slightly deep coastal reefs and is carnivorous. It sleeps in rock caves and rock shelves at night. It spawns around June. Its meat is watery and has little edible value.

硬骨魚綱スズキ目ベラ科に属する海水魚。千葉県以南の南日本、朝鮮半島南部、台湾、南シナ海に分布する。体は側扁(そくへん)しているが厚みがある。体の地色は紅褐色で、中央に幅広い白色斜走帯があり、その前部は暗緑色を帯びる。口の周りや腹びれの前部は青い。全長40センチメートルになる。沿岸のやや深い岩礁にすみ、肉食性。夜は岩穴や岩棚で眠る。産卵期は6月ごろ。肉は水っぽく食用としての価値は低い。
