A village in Kamikita District, eastern Shimokita Peninsula, Aomori Prefecture. It is long and narrow from north to south, with the northern part occupying the eastern slope of the Shimokita Hills, and the central and southern parts of the village being home to many lakes and marshes, including Lake Ogawara, Obuchi Numa, and Takahoko Numa. There is also the Japan Nuclear Fuel Promotion Center. Mutsu Ogawara Port is designated as an important port. The Shimokita Peninsula Longitudinal Road is currently under construction (partially opened in 2004). The Great East Japan Earthquake caused damage in the village, covering an area of 252.68 km2 and a population of 11,095 (2010).
