Anṣārī, `Abdullāh

[Born] 1005. Herat
[died] 1089. Herat Persian mystic and poet. In 1031, during the pilgrimage to Mecca, he met the mystic Abul-Hasan Hirkani in Baghdad and was greatly influenced by him, and later became an ardent mystic and taught his disciples in his hometown. He is known for expressing mystical ideas in quatrains, and many mystical quatrains are woven into his elegant prose work in the Sajju script, Munājāt. He is considered one of the major Persian quatrain poets.
