Japanese: 中折帽 - なかおれぼう

A hat made of soft felt, it is called a fedora because it is worn with a depression in the center of the top of the hat. Felt hats with a hard finish are called bowler hats, while those with a soft finish are called fedoras or soft hats. The most luxurious fedora is the Homburg, named after the place in Germany where it is made, and it became popular in the late 19th century when Edward VII of England wore one while he was still Prince of Wales. 柔らかいフェルトで作られた帽子で，山高帽の山の部分の中央にくぼみを入れてかぶるところから，中折帽と呼ばれる。フェルト･ハットのうち，堅く仕上げたものを山高帽，柔らかく仕上げたものを中折帽またはソフト帽という。中折帽で最も高級なものは，ホンブルクHomburgという，ドイツの産地名をつけた帽子で，19世紀末，イギリスのエドワード7世が皇太子時代にかぶったことから広まった。帽子【大浜治子】
