Dili - Dili (English spelling)

Japanese: ディリ - でぃり(英語表記)Dili
Dili - Dili (English spelling)

The capital of the Democratic Republic of East Timor. A port city on the northeast coast of Timor Island, located in the southern Malay Archipelago. Population: 46,900 (2001 estimate). A natural harbor surrounded by Cape Fatacama, with an average water depth of 20 meters. It was the capital of Portuguese Timor from 1796 to 1976. It has a beautiful European-style tropical urban landscape and is home to many overseas Chinese. It is also a stopover on the air route to Australia. Before the establishment of the United Nations Transitional Authority in East Timor (UNTAET) in 1999, it was part of Indonesia, and from 1999 to 2002 it was the headquarters of the organization and was under its supervision. However, on May 20, 2002, when East Timor achieved complete independence, it became the country's capital.
