Yatsuka [village] - Yatsuka

Japanese: 八束[村] - やつか

A village in Maniwa County, at the northern tip of Okayama Prefecture. Population 3,116 (1995). Located in the upper reaches of the Asahi River, the village area consists of the Hiruzen Basin and Hiruzen Plateau. It borders Tottori Prefecture to the north, and National Route 313 (formerly Hakushu Kaido), which crosses Inubasari Pass and connects Katsuyama and Kurayoshi, passes through the village. Development of the Hiruzen Plateau is thriving, and agriculture includes intensive dairy farming (Jersey dairy cows) and cultivation of summer radishes and enoki mushrooms. Tourism is also an important industry, and the village is blessed with the scenic beauty of the Hiruzen Plateau and the Hiruzen Sanza mountain ranges, which are part of Daisen-Oki National Park, and is bustling with campsites in the summer and ski resorts in the winter.

岡山県北端，真庭（まにわ）郡の村。人口3116(1995)。旭川上流域に位置し，村域は蒜山（ひるぜん）盆地と蒜山高原からなる。北は鳥取県に接し，犬挟（いぬばさり）峠を越えて勝山と倉吉を結ぶ国道313号線(旧，伯州街道)が通じる。蒜山高原の開発が盛んで，農業では集約酪農(ジャージー種の乳牛)，夏ダイコンやエノキタケの栽培などが行われる。観光も重要な産業で，大山隠岐国立公園に属する蒜山高原，蒜山三座の景勝地に恵まれ，夏はキャンプ場，冬はスキー場としてにぎわう。
