〘Noun〙 The symbols that appear as a result of fortune-telling using the I Ching . Two types of lines representing yin and yang are combined in triplicate to form eight shapes: Qian, Dui , Li , Zhen , Xun , Kan, Gen, and Kun. These are called the Eight Trigrams, and in the I Ching (Zhouyi), these Eight Trigrams are further combined in pairs, one above the other, to form 64 Trigrams. These Eight Trigrams and 64 Trigrams are used to read all the changes between heaven and earth and to judge good and bad fortune. ※Shoku Nihongi - Reiki Year 1 (715), August Ding Chou "The front legs are lined with two separate hexagrams.
