Sherpa people - Sherpa tribe (English spelling) Sherpa
A highland Tibetan ethnic group living in the mountainous region at the southern foot of Mt. Everest in Nepal. The population is estimated at about 100,000. Sherpa means "Eastern people" in Tibetan, and Sherpa is a dialect of Tibetan, and their manners and customs are very similar to those of Tibetans. They practice Lamaism and are engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. They are also indispensable assistants for Himalayan mountaineering, and are familiar with Japanese climbing teams.
