…The growth of the Furuichi clan as local lords is also thought to have occurred in the late Kamakura period, as seen in the Furuichi Tajima lord document from 1325 (Shochu 2). During the Nanboku-cho period, conflict between the Daijo-in and Ichijo-in temple head priests intensified at Kofuku-ji Temple, which held real power in Yamato. The monks of Kofuku-ji Temple and the local lords organized by the citizens of Kasuga Shrine were divided into the two temple head priests, and among them, the Tsutsui clan of northern Yamato (the monks of Ichijo-in Temple) and the Ochi clan of southern Yamato (the citizens of Ichijo-in Temple) rose to prominence. During this process, the Furuichi clan also gradually rose to prominence, and around the Oei period (1394-1428), Inken was active. …

...Particularly noteworthy is the system of sponsors (donors) at the Kasuga Wakamiya festival, who participated in the ritual (they could be called miyaza). The monks and citizens formed six groups of local warriors (Inuiwaki of the Tsutsui clan, Hasegawa of the Toichi clan, Nagakawa of the Hashio clan, Hirata of the Hirata manor, Minami of the Narahara clan, and scattered groups of the Ochi clan), and two groups participated in the Wakamiya festival every year, with the leader of the group acting as sponsor. The sponsors had all four Yamato Sarugaku troupes, Konparu, Kongo, Kanze, and Hosho, participate, and the firewood Sarugaku was moved to the south gate of Kofuku-ji Temple and held on a grand scale. ...
