A lake in the southwest of Argentina. In the Patagonia region at the eastern foot of the Andes, there is a group of large lakes formed by glacial action, known as the Lake District. Lake Nahuel Huapi, upstream of the Negro River, is the largest of these lakes, with an area of 800 km2 and an elevation of about 770 m above sea level. It is also said to be more than 1000 m deep, making it the third deepest lake in the world. The complex lake is home to islands of all sizes, and offers beautiful views of Mount Tronador, with the surrounding area being a national park. [Nishizawa Toshie]
