Limfjorden (English spelling)

Japanese: リム湾 - リムわん（英語表記）Limfjorden

A marine lake that crosses the northern part of the Jutland Peninsula in Denmark. It is 180 km long. From its eastern mouth to Aalborg, about 25 km away, it is narrow like a river, and an underwater caisson tunnel connects the north and south. To the west, it is divided into four or five lakes on islands and peninsulas. These lakes were formed when seawater seeped into depressions in moraine at the end of the Scandinavian ice sheet about 16,000 years ago. The western end was artificially excavated in 1875. Oyster farming is popular here, and caviar made from shrimp and blenny eggs is also a specialty. It is surrounded by low, flat farmland.

デンマークのユトランド半島北部を横切る海跡湖。長さ180km。東の口から約25kmのオールボまでは川のように狭く，潜函式水底トンネルが南と北を結んでいる。西は島や半島で4～5の湖に分かれる。これらの湖は約1万6000年前のスカンジナビア氷床末端モレーン(堆石)の凹所に海水が浸入して生じた。西端は1875年に人工開削された。カキの養殖が盛んで，エビやギンポ類の卵のキャビアも特産物である。周囲には低平な農耕地が広がる。
