The Man with No Qualities - The Man with No Qualities

The Man with No Qualities - The Man with No Qualities

A full-length novel by the Austrian writer Musil. The first volume was published in 1930, and only the first half of the second volume was published in 1933. It was conceived in the long term from around 1900, and in the short term from around 1920, and was left unfinished even after Musil's lifetime. In the first volume, the protagonist Ulrich, who sees reality as only a small part of the realization of possibilities, uses his sense to awaken these possibilities as a lever to experimentally analyze and elucidate the suffocated mental climate of the ruling class in Vienna, the ancient capital of the old Austrian powerhouse, on the eve of World War I, and a fresh wind of free possibilities blows from behind the shattered reality. In the second volume, the possibility of love between Ulrich and his sister Agathe is rigorously pursued step by step, depicting a magnificent moment of mystical union in a godless age.
