Characteristic function

Let F(x) be the distribution function of the random variable X. In other words, F(x) = P(X < x). In this case,

is called the characteristic function of random variable X. Let f(t) be the characteristic function of random variable X, and g(t) be the characteristic function of random variable Y. If X and Y are independent random variables, then the characteristic function of X+Y is given by f(t) × g(t).

The characteristic function is determined by the distribution function. The characteristic function of the binomial distribution B(n,p) is (pe ^it +q) ⁿ , the characteristic function of the Poisson distribution P(λ) is exp(λe ^it -1), and the characteristic function of the normal distribution N(m,σ ² ) is exp(imt-(σ ² /2)t ² ).

確率変数Xの分布関数をF(x)とする。すなわちF(x)=P(X＜x)とする。このとき

を確率変数Xの特性関数という。確率変数Xの特性関数をf(t)、確率変数Yの特性関数をg(t)とする。X、Yが独立な確率変数であれば、X+Yの特性関数はf(t)・g(t)で与えられる。

　特性関数は分布関数によって決まる。二項分布B(n,p)の特性関数は(pe^it+q)ⁿ、ポアソン分布P(λ)の特性関数はexp(λe^it-1)、正規分布N(m,σ²)の特性関数はexp(imt-(σ²/2)t²)である。
