He later became a disciple of Utei Enba (Tatekawa Enma), and took the name Tatekawa Ensho. He then became independent under the name Sanyutei Ensho, and in 1797 (Kansei 9) he changed his name to Sanyutei Ensho. He called himself the originator of “gestures, vocal expression, and musical instruments in theatrical performance” and became very popular. …
