Kishu Dojoji Temple

Japanese:
Kishu Dojoji Temple
The title of a Nagauta piece. It was first performed in 1860 at the Shirokane Suehiro Palace of Lord Nanbu. The lyrics are said to have been written by Lord Nanbu Satake Toshinobu. The music was composed by Kineya Saburosuke V (later Kineya Kangoro III). Of all the so-called Dojoji pieces, this is the closest to the Noh play Dojoji, including the lyrics. All the pieces are in hon-teki. The composition is excellent, with the Shirabyoshi's entrance, michiyuki, and random rhythm, based on the origin of Dojoji. The story of the waki monk, which incorporates Sendai Joruri, is a kudoki that is a highlight of the song. The hayafue interludes are reminiscent of the snake-like Kiyohime, and the use of the first and third strings is also effective. This interlude is divided into three sections, but sometimes only the third section is performed. This masterpiece, with its skillful composition, fully demonstrates the interesting changes that can be seen in Nagauta.
