Sensory stimulation

…A sensory system is made up of receptors, pathways, and sensory areas. Among the various factors in the environment, those that cause a reaction in a receptor are called sensory stimuli, and the sensory stimulus that most efficiently causes a reaction in a particular receptor is called the appropriate stimulus for that receptor. For example, the photoreceptors in the eye (a sensory organ) only respond to electromagnetic waves in the wavelength range of 400 to 700 nm, i.e., light.
