A high peak in the western Sanuki Mountains on the border between Kagawa and Tokushima Prefectures. It is 927 meters above sea level. Its topography is made up of the Izumi Sandstone Formation, which is made up of sandstone, agglomerate, and shale, and the summit is flat compared to the steep slopes of the mountainside. On the Tokushima side of the peak is the 66th temple of the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage, Unpenji Temple. A road runs from the Tokushima side, but the pilgrimage route is on the Kagawa side, and many mileposts and guideposts remain. The peak is a good observation deck, and the sunset over the Mitoyo Plain and Hiuchi Nada Sea is particularly beautiful. In 1987 (Showa 62), the Unpenji Ropeway opened from Oonohara Town (now Kanonji City), Kagawa Prefecture, making it easier to visit Unpenji Temple and increasing the number of tourists.
