A 12th-century Andalusian scholar. Much about his life is unknown. According to his own biographies, he was born in a small city west of Lorca in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, and studied in Lorca. Before his death in early 1203, he traveled to Maghreb cities such as Ceuta, Marrakech, and Bijaya, as well as Alexandria, where he learned from many scholars. However, he spent most of his life in Murcia, close to his birthplace. Among his books, he is best known for his collection of biographies of Andalusian scholars.

12世紀のアンダルスの学者。生涯については不明の点も多い。彼自身の伝記集によれば，イベリア半島南東部のロルカLorca西方の小都市で生まれ，ロルカで学問を修める。1203年初めに没するまでに，セウタ，マラケシュ，ビジャヤなどのマグリブ諸都市，さらにはアレクサンドリアへと旅をし，多くの学者から学んだ。しかし，生地に近いムルシアで一生のうちでいちばん長い時を過ごした。著書のうちアンダルスの学者伝記集が名高い。
