〘noun〙 (Takt・tact) ① rhythm. ※Taijoubutsushin (1922-23) by Satomi Ton: Inside the closet "Before I knew it, he was once again earnestly holding the baton with his clasped fingers." ② Conducting (of a chorus or ensemble). Also, a conductor's baton. ※Shinban Daitokyo Annai (1929) by Kon Wajiro: Pleasure in Tokyo: "A Rakugo performer was likened to the conductor of an orchestra, facing backwards and holding a baton in his hand." ③ Tact when interacting with people. A talent for negotiation. A skilled hand. ※A Certain Woman (1919) by Arishima Takeo: Front: "He had more than enough baton to entertain my young heart."
