Iberian

Japanese:
Iberian

The ancient Greeks called the tribes that lived on the Iberian Peninsula Iberians. The name Iberia comes from the Ebro River that flows through eastern Spain. Humans have lived on the Iberian Peninsula for a long time, as Paleolithic human bones and artifacts have been discovered. Around the 3rd millennium BC, Hamitic Iberians migrated from Africa. Greeks and Phoenicians began to live on the Mediterranean coast, but the name Iberians seems to refer to other indigenous peoples, and the extent of their origin is unclear. Around the 10th century BC, Indo-European Celts migrated from Central Europe to the eastern part of the Iberian Peninsula. These tribes interbred and spread throughout the highlands in the center of the Iberian Peninsula. These were the Celt-Iberians, who form the basic part of the Spanish people. The Basque people lived in the Pyrenees before the Celts arrived, and are sometimes called Iberians.
